Past simple tense

The simple past tense is used to indicate actions or states that occurred in the past. its used to indicate that an action was completed in the past.

Past simple tense basic structure

Subject + verb(past tense) + other

  1. In English, the typical way to form the past tense of a verb is to add “ed” to the end.

  1. If a verb ends with the letter “e”, just add the letter “d” at the end.

  1. Transform verbs ending in ‘y’ followed by a consonant to ‘i’ and then add ’ed’.

Past progressive tense

The past progressive tense is a verb form used to refer to an action that was ongoing at a time in the past. The past progressive is formed using the past tense of the auxiliary verb “be” (i.e., “was/were”) along with the present participle (“ing” form) of a main verb (e.g., “I was thinking”).
